Character: Anti Black Coat
Source: Kingdom Hearts
Appearance: This is what he looks like
History: Here is the wiki article! But I’ll probably have to go a bit more in-depth. Well, as in-depth as I can.

He has a very short history in canon. And by short I mean short. He is born not too long before he is met, born from the nightmares Sora has—brought on by Young Xehanort poking at Sora’s own inner darkness. When Riku finds Sora, there is darkness swirling passively around him. When Riku takes Sora’s hand and attempts to wake him, it reacts, growing stronger before streaming off and manifesting as Anti Black Coat. He stands for a moment, listening to Riku, before the Nightmare symbol emblazons itself upon the back of his coat. Then, a brutal fight breaks out and he gives Riku little chance to attack. In the end, however, he is still defeated and melts away, freeing both Riku and Sora.

…Yeah, that’s unfortunately about it.
Timeline: Just before he dies, as he’s falling.

Personality: While much isn’t seen in canon, one can draw a few conclusions about him from his behavior and typical race characteristics. Anti Black Coat (ABC from this point forward) is a Nightmare. He is thus predatory in nature. He will hunt and think in almost animalistic patterns. However, that doesn’t make him mindless. On the contrary—the battle against him proves the direct opposite. He is incredibly fast, teleports often, and attacks ruthlessly from a distance AND close-ranged. Which is another point: he doesn’t understand the concept of mercy. As a Dream Eater, his world is very much eat or be eaten—literally.

He is a bit of a sadist, drawing joy from the pain of those he doesn’t call friends—hey, it means he isn’t the ones suffering, after all, so why not enjoy it? And beyond that, he’s based on nightmares of Riku. He has a large capacity for cruelty, and doesn’t practice mercy most of the time. There’s no reason to as mercy is a quick way to die as a Nightmare.

He is also a Nightmare through and through. Dreams are his prey, and he wants to eat them—to the point that he doesn’t want to STOP eating. He doesn’t understand the concept of not being greedy in this aspect—he’s gluttonous, even though he easily consumes enough to keep going.

The way he treats other people falls into two categories. Either you’re prey or you’re not. He is ruthless and aggressive toward what he perceives as prey. If he is neutral toward someone, though, he’ll just generally act like a douche to them. How he divides them is quite simple. Basically, if you have what he deems Nightmare-like qualities, you’re on neutral ground. Spirit-like qualities? Watch your back.

Which brings us to another thing. He views everything in terms of Nightmare or Spirit. It’s how he’s had to divide the world since his “birth.” So it carries over to everything else he does and his interactions with anyone would be defined by this view. This black-and-white mentality will be hard to work past, and he’s stubborn on top of that.

Another trait of his is that he is… Largely possessive. He is met when Riku approaches Sora, after all, and he attacks in order to keep what he sees as his. Which, in the case given, is Sora and his dreams—a source of food that is only useful when asleep.

And now we get into stuff that isn't outright said in canon, but stuff I infer from his actions and history.

ABC is, for lack of a better word, brutally honest. Perhaps a bit too honest to the point of being blunt and hurtful. It's more fun, really, to be such because the truth tends to be more terrible than any fiction he can spin. And really, he just gets a kick out of other people's suffering.

He doesn't really care for others. They're competition for everything resource-wise, and he sees very little benefit in making friends. He has always been alone, and this has left him socially stunted, to say the least, which has, well... Led to the above mentioned reactions to people--hostility and indifference. Basically, he doesn't play well with others. At all.

He hates being vulnerable, on that note, and that's something trust and friendship requires--for one to be vulnerable. Vulnerability is just... Not something he does. He wants, above all else, to survive, and vulnerability gets you killed. Which, well... Is the direct opposite of what he wants.

He's inherently violent and hostile towards most anything. It makes his life a little less boring--which is something he hates. Boredom is not an option, and since he likes the pain of others? Fighting is the way to go. Which brings us to another trait: he becomes easily frustrated with things he doesn't understand (like the mirrors in the sample). He quickly either figures out their purpose, or, if he deems it pointless, he'll discard it. ...He's pretty much the same way with people. Everything comes down to how it best serves him.

He is, as mentioned, a ruthless person. There is really no reason for him to show mercy, at all. To him, the world is basically eat or be eaten--sometimes literally, sometimes not. He's selfish in that respect, because in his view, he is the only person he can count on not to screw him over in some way. So, basically, he's ruthless and cruel because he has trust issues and isolation means he had no one to really learn positive social interaction from. Ironic, considering his connection to Sora.

Which brings us to another thing. He is highly possessive. If he deems something his, he will defend it to the death just to keep it. He doesn't want to give it up. His prey, his object, his whatever. It is his and that is how it's going to stay or you can have it over his dead body.

Another aspect of him is that... He is young. Literally, he probably lives about five minutes. Maybe half an hour. He's naive in his own respect, despite being a full grown Nightmare. His entire world was Sora's dreams, and his memories. Which, well... Wasn't much, given that Sora himself is only about sixteen and only had limited knowledge of the worlds. This gives ABC a very limited scope with which to judge things, and very few experiences, so he has plenty of learning to do--and plenty of curiosity to go with it! He wants to learn, to expand his horizons. But that doesn't mean he wants to make friends.

As well, while he is a Nightmare, and thus inherently behaves like a Nightmare, he is unique. There are no other human-shaped Nightmares in the game, and as such, he is very different. He doesn't just hunt--he reacts, he thinks, he feels. He uses tactics that other Nightmares don't use. He is a very tough battle because of this as he has the ability to think of his feet, which is something other Nightmares can't do. They simply react and keep doing the same things over and over, whereas he uses his moves effectively--in a shallow but devastation move pool that adjusts to the distance of his enemy (as opposed to adjusting the distance to his target to match his move pool!). He logics things out far better than other Nightmares seen.

ABC is also extremely stubborn, and while he wants to learn, he doesn't exactly want to change. He is, after all, all he has, and budging is weakness. Weakness that he doesn't think he can afford, really. It's also a principle thing--he doesn't want to admit he may be wrong.

Abilities: Dream Eating: Probably a no-brainer, but he is a Dream Eater. Specifically, a Nightmare. This means that he has the ability to devour good dreams, and in fact this is how he eats. Bad dreams are left in the wake of devoured dreams.

Teleportation: An ability he uses often in battle, ABC is rarely in one place for long. He teleports freely around the arena, with no warnings as to when he will or where he’ll end up.

Floating: He rarely just walks anywhere. He’ll hover, just off the ground, and float there instead unless he uses the above ability and teleports.

Weapon Summoning: He only has a weapon in hand when attacking physically. It appears at the beginning of an attack, and disappears at the end. He is only seen using a sword. Occasionally, there will be darkness used to enhance the blade’s reach or damage, but this is highly visible and easily dodged.

Leech Trap: One attack will be sent along the floor and capture the enemy, lifting him into the air. HP balls will be ripped from them, leaving them at 1HP—always. Not able to be used as a finished unless target is already at 1HP.

Bottomless Pit: From a distance, he will create a pool under the target and the red and black darkness will arc upward from said pool at four spots around the target to cause damage.

Toxic Shot: Purple energy bullets are fired and home in on the target. Easily dodged, though. Inflicts a poison status ailment.

Cross-bind: A red-and-black darkness X is sent at the target, and will wrap around them if it connects, causing damage.

Note: attacks names are of fan creation as there are no official names, nor even a list of his attacks. All attacks are described as perceived from playing the game and videos.

Inventory: His sword

Prose Sample: Homes are odd. He has no idea why anyone would need a home. What are they even good for? Some shelter? Why does anyone need shelter? But perhaps that’s naiveté. He, after all, doesn’t know the worlds beyond Sora’s dreams. So homes and shelter are entirely foreign concepts to him—probably more suited to Spirits than him. But that isn’t stopping him from poking about this place, this… This… What would he even call it? It’s tiny and it hardly even has anything like in the picture books or dreams Sora has. The Nightmare isn’t even sure what to make of it.

“It’s hardly suited for a den…” he mutters to himself, peering out through a window. It’s not even all that protected! How is one supposed to call this a home—their own shelter—when there are multiple points of entry? It hardly seems conducive for survival! And isn’t that what matters? Well, it does to him. He’d have to fortify all the entrances if he plans on staying here. That’ll take quite a bit of work, time and effort. He’ll have to see if there’s anything else available, anything that will be more protected from the get-go.

“How troublesome…” he groans, rubbing at his temples as he examines the croft further. Is there anything he can do to it right now to fortify it and make it more livable by his standards? It seems not. Bah. He’ll have to work, then, since a cursory glance tells him that other uninhabited crofts have no fortifications at all, much like this one. So he’s on his own and he’s going to have to improvise. There has to be something in this place that he can use to cover the window and make them solid, to harden the door to make it hard to break down…
Journal Sample: [Mirrors. They talk to mirrors and this somehow works for communication. He’s not sure he gets it, or why it’s even necessary. What happened to talking face-to-face? Isn’t that a thing still?]

…How does this even work? I feel ridiculous talking to a mirror, of all things. It’s, what? A piece of glass? Why do you even use this? Shouldn’t I just come and find someone if I want to talk to them?

[He’s growing increasingly frustrated with this. He feels like he’s talking to himself! How incredibly stupid and dull!]

…Is there even a point to this, or am I just talking to myself? …Whatever. It’s not like I care. You guys can go about your meaningless little lives, I’ll just sit here and talk to a chunk of glass.

[And with that, he’ll bitterly tuck it away because really. He feels ridiculous.]

Name: Anti Black Coat
Source: Kingdom Hearts (AU)
Type: Reaper
Canon Point: Post-3D
History: Once upon a time, there was a very special boy named Sora. And he had a very special heart and very special dreams. You see, certain dreams were about himself and two people very close to him and they happened so often that the Nightmare Dream Eaters spawned from them could only really take one form: the trio themselves. Now, Dream Eaters are special creatures. They are born from mixtures of dreams, and they come in two kinds. Spirits, which eat bad dreams, and Nightmares, which eat good dreams.

The Kairi Nightmare was born from bad dreams of her going away, of failing to save her, or her hating Sora. The Riku Nightmare (Anti Black Coat) was born out of the bad dreams of him being consumed by darkness, of the terrible things Riku had done, or leaving the two behind. The Sora Nightmare was born of the bad dreams of losing himself, of the potential for darkness he had, of becoming a vessel for Xehanort.

The three came together and formed a group, working together to hunt down dreams for their own meals. They gained strength this way, and were, for awhile, content to live this way. They could freely explore the worlds of Sora’s dreams, turning them to nightmares with easy. However, all too soon this became monotonous and they grew bored. They wanted more.

They got their chance.

It was an accident. Anti Black Coat, upon sensing a nearing Spirit that happened to be powerful, immediately went on the defense for his friends. He came face to face with Riku, and he fought—inadvertently discovering a way out. It was as he was beginning to lose to his look-alike that he realized—and immediately fled back into Sora’s dreams, allowing Riku passage to the real world. Meanwhile, the Nightmare trio fled from Sora’s dreams, freeing him from the grips of nightmares.

They traveled the realm of sleep, unaware of the resolution to the battle. They didn’t care, after all—they had their freedom. But it came at a price. Three powerful Nightmares functioning as a unit began to greatly affect the Realm of Sleep. Many Spirits were devoured as they traveled, seeking new adventures. Eventually, Sora, Riku and Kairi were called in. The two groups clashed, each one taking on their counterpart.

The island trio proved too much for the Nightmares, and they were all eventually dispatched. As they faded, they reached for each other one last time.
Personality: Anti Black Coat (ABC from this point forward) is a Nightmare.

That doesn’t mean he’s without his positive traits. He is loyal to a fault when it comes to his friends, though there are currently only two. It is his loyalty, after all, that had him facing down Riku initially. He is also incredibly truthful, though this goes to the extreme of being incredibly blunt. His main reason is that, as he perceives things, the truth is often more terrible and fun than a lie.

He is a bit of a sadist, drawing joy from the pain of those he doesn’t call friends—hey, it means he and his friends aren’t the ones suffering, after all, so why not enjoy it? And beyond that, he’s based on nightmares of Riku. He has a large capacity for cruelty, and doesn’t practice mercy most of the time. There’s no reason to as mercy is a quick way to die as a Nightmare.

He doesn’t understand the concept of not being greedy in this aspect—he’s gluttonous, even though he easily consumes enough to keep going. This is ultimately the main trait that caused his problems with the Destiny Trio and his eventual downfall.

The way he treats other people falls into two categories. Either you’re prey or you’re not. He is ruthless and aggressive toward what he perceives as prey. If he is neutral toward someone, though, he’ll just generally act like a douche to them. How he divides them is quite simple. This black-and-white mentality will be hard to work past, and he’s stubborn on top of that.

As a final point on his personality, given his point in the AU, he will be very angry and emotional—prone to lashing out and hurting others to dull his own pain, as he’s lost the only two people he cared about. They are, after all, gone and he’d be around and would probably hurt those around him. Especially those who have friends there.
Abilities: Dream Eating: Probably a no-brainer, but he is a Dream Eater. Specifically, a Nightmare. This means that he has the ability to devour good dreams, and in fact this is how he eats. Bad dreams are left in the wake of devoured dreams.
